The Best Ways To Go Green.
Many of us are working hard to reduce our Carbon Footprint and protect the environment. One of the best ways to go green is swapping the car for a bike, but how does this help? And what else can you do to protect our environment?
As we have just mentioned, one of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint is by ditching the car and finding alternative transport. Walking or cycling is a brilliant alternative for those who work or study close to home. Plus, they are both excellent forms of exercise, so it’s a win-win.
According to ‘Environmental Protection UK’ Road transport is one of the most significant sources of pollution in the UK. In fact, it counts for 22% of the total UK emissions of Carbon Dioxide (C02). It doesn’t help that of the 34 million vehicles on our roads, 28 million are cars. Driving is therefore considered the most damaging activity to the environment.
Cycling, however, has a carbon footprint of about 21g of CO2 per kilometre, less than a tenth of driving emissions. ‘Bike Radar’, calculated that If pedalling replaced driving, this could make a net reduction of 7.7-million tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to 6% of the UK’s transport emissions.
With the rise in fuel prices, many may swap the car for a bike to save money.
Some work commutes require a short journey on the train or bus, so it’s essential to have a bike that accommodates your full commute. That’s why our E-bikes are easy to fold and carry, making them ideal for taking on public transport.
Axon E-Bikes are an environmentally friendly alternative to many forms of transport.
Turn Off the Lights
Another easy way to help protect the environment is by saving electricity. Turn off the lights when you aren’t in the room, turn your TV, games consoles and computer off instead of standby, switch off chargers when your device is full. You can also try turning down the heat; Nudge the heating down a few degrees, go for a 40 degrees clothes wash, wrap up in a jumper and invest in good insulation.
According to ‘The Greenage’ In the average home, 75% of the electricity used to power electronics is consumed while the products are turned off (on standby). Each TV or computer left on standby is estimated to cost you 2p per hour. In addition, only 5% of the power drawn by a phone charger is used to charge the phone. So, turning off the devices can go a long way.
We know that charging an Axon E-Bike does require electricity, but a lot less is needed compared to an electric car. Plus, our batteries are long-lasting, so you don’t need to charge them as often. The battery range is up to 25 miles for many of our bikes.
Reduce Your Waste
Trying to cut down on what you throw away is the simplest way to put it. Recycle as much as you can, from the everyday rubbish to your clothes. Swap your plastic bottles for reusable ones and shop with bags for life instead of plastic bags.
According to ‘Metro Waste’, the UK produced 221 million tonnes of waste in a single year. Putting that into context, the average small car (e.g. a Nissan Micra) weighs around a tonne and is about 4 metres long, so if they were put end to end, they’d circle the earth over 22 times!
So, what about passing on an E-Bike? Well, Foldable E-bikes keep their value. When deciding to sell your old foldable bike to buy a new model, the bike will still be worth a fair amount. Foldable electrics depreciate much slower than a standard bike. So, you will be giving your bike a new home while getting some extra cash in your pocket.
